Our story

Hellsten Flooring Ltd. Oy

The founder of our company, Erkki Hellsten, started his career at the age of 15 at a weaving mill in the mid-1950s. His long-term employer closed his business at Kokkola in 1979. However, Erkki could still see a lot of potential in the weaving business, so he bought some weaving machines from his employer and decided to establish his own company, Mattokutomo Hellsten Ky at Ilmajoki.

In the early years, the company concentrated on its trademark vinyl rugs, mainly for the Finnish market. In 1996, the product selection was complemented with the Tuuli flooring®, which was sold to customers all over the world. Soon after this, the company name took its current, more international form, Hellsten Flooring Ltd Oy.

On the 20th anniversary of the company, Erkki began to consider handing his role over to the next operator, and a successor was found in his close circle. Erkki’s son Vesa has been involved in the daily activities of the weaving business since early childhood, so he was already familiar with the business and its challenges. In 1999, Vesa took over the business, and at the same time, production was focused solely on the Tuuli flooring.
